New board members elected to PA and District Chamber of Commerce

The Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce membership casted votes electronically during the month of May for new members on their board.

Four new directors were elected while two members were re-elected.

The new directors are Brenda Byers, Cody Demerais, Colette Harnett, and Donna Pfiel.

Clayton Clark and Tanya Tootoosis were both re-elected.

Bill Powalinsky was also elected as the new chair of the board.

New Board Members

Brenda Byers was born in Prince Albert and grew up in the MacDowall area. She started an IT consulting business, BIT Consulting Ltd to give back to the IT industry and to the province.

“Getting involved with business’ is an honor, and I am looking forward to it, Byers said.

“There are so many thriving business’ who are passionate about doing well and delivering great service, so I think the potential for business growth in Prince Albert is huge.”

Cody Demerais was born and raised in Prince Albert. He is a Metis Entrepreneur and is the owner of Limitless Gear Clothing.

“I’m grateful that the Prince Albert business community gave me a chance and voted me in” Demerais said.

“I know there is dozens of years of professionalism, expertise, business sense, and community leadership. I’m extremely excited to learn from a lot of the other board members and hopefully be a vital part.”

Colette Harnett has 12 years of experience as a Funeral Director and Embalmer at River Park Funeral Home. She also helps her husband run their small business Ampire Electric. As a third-generation businesswoman she sees firsthand how important it is to have a thriving community.

Donna Pfeil was raised on a farm in central Saskatchewan. Moving to Prince Albert in junior high and making her home here ever since. Three years ago, she made the decision to be a part of the employee buyout of the Prince Albert Daily Herald, where she serves as president and publisher.

Incumbents

Clayton Clark is Co-Owner of Asiil Enterprises Ltd and has lived in the Prince Albert Area his whole life. Clayton is passionate about continuing his work on the Chamber board.

“I am looking forward to working with the new board and I think there’s a lot of exciting things coming to Prince Albert right away so it will be really good to apart of the change that is coming to the city,” Clark said.

Tanya Tootoosis is a 22-year employee at Northern Lights Casino, serving in Integrity Management for the past 13 years. Tanya is looking forward to another two-year term with the Board.

Incoming Chair

Bill Powalinsky is the chief executive officer for the Prince Albert and district community center and has been in this position for the last six years.

“I am very humbled to be given the opportunity,” Powalinsky told paNOW. “We have got a really good cross section of business interests and interests in the community and I’m very proud to be the incoming chair.

“I appreciate the work the outgoing board members have done. The new members bring a great depth of experience and bring a great business background to the table.”

The positions will become effective at the Chamber AGM on September 21, 2021.
