MELFORT, Sask. – Saskatchewan is expanding its agriculture technology sector.

The provincial government chose Conexus Venture Capital as the manager for the province’s $15 million agtech venture capital investment.

Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit said the five-year venture capital fund investment is designed to bring economic growth to the province and equip farmers with new technology.

He said the investment will increase the province’s economic recovery from COVID-19 and build on an already strong agricultural sector.

Agriculture has the potential to add $11 billion to Canada’s economy by accelerating investments in technology.

Manitoba is allowing livestock producers to cut hay on Crown lands not normally designated for agricultural use due to the dry conditions.

The agriculture and resource development department said under certain circumstances, non-agricultural Crown lands can be made available for agricultural use.

The Agricultural Crown Lands Leasing (ACL) program will administer the use of available land and provide necessary permits.

The department has posted a list of lands available on the website that will be allocated by draw on June 11 including unallocated ACL forage lands.
