Prince Albert’s Kali Frank is the first to admit she was not the young girl with dreams of becoming a lawyer when she grew up.

That being said, the once former professional dancer later eventually discovered her passion for law, and this week graduated from the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan with a gold medal. The award indicates highest marks in the college and great distinction. Frank told paNOW she was both shocked and surprised to receive the award.

“The college of law is not an easy college to get into and so my classmates are among the best and brightest”, she said. “It means a lot to me to be recognized for the hard work and dedication I’ve shown over the last few years.”

Frank explained the past year was particularly challenging as, due to COVID restrictions, she was forced to finish her law degree at home.

“Being in school with your classmates is kind of one of the highlights of law school and so this past year was a challenge for all of us,” she said.

Frank is currently articling with MLT Aikins in Saskatoon and over the next year will be working towards the completion of the bar admissions course. Reflecting back on the past few years, Frank explained the idea to become a lawyer entered her mind while she was taking classes at the nearby Edward’s School of Business.

“I’d see the college all the time and wonder if I have what it takes to even get in,” she said.

Not only did she have what it takes, Frank passed with flying colours. Following her completion of the bar exam next year, Frank plans to work in corporate/commercial law.

While excited about her own success, Frank also wanted to acknowledge that the gold, silver and bronze medal winners this year were all women.
