Unconscious dog saved from structure fire in Prince Albert

Jun 4, 2021 | 5:00 PM

A dog’s life was saved by local first responders after it was carried out of a burning structure in Prince Albert early Friday morning.

At 2:20 a.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department attended a report of a possible structure fire at the 500 block of 21st St. E.

P.A Fire Department Captain Trevor Wingert told paNOW the crew went into the building where they performed a primary search and found a large dog who was unable to escape. They picked up the unconscious dog and carried it out to safety.

Along with help from Parkland Ambulance and the Prince Albert Police Service, they gave the animal oxygen using a special mask that covers its entire snout. They brought the dog back to life and gave it some water.

“It was a happy moment for the guys,” Wingert said.

The animals condition improved enough for it to walk to a Prince Albert Police Service cruiser where it was taken to Park Range Veterinary Services for further care. The updated condition of the dog is unknown.

According to a Facebook post from the Prince Albert Fire Department, when they first arrived on scene, no smoke or flames could be seen outside the building, but both were found inside once they investigated. They quickly put out the fire, but the blaze caused extensive damage to the home.

The fire is under investigation.
