Rotary Club makes initial payment towards the Rotary Adventure Park

The Rotary Club of Prince Albert was proud to present the City of Prince Albert with a $100,000 cheque this afternoon for their first instalment towards the Rotary Adventure Park.

The Rotary Club is working with the city to build it at the Little Red River Park and plan to begin construction in the spring of 2022.

The Rotary Club has committed to contributing over $500,000 to the $800,000 project. The city will supply the remainder of the funding.

Today’s cheque presentation was for the first $100,000.

President of the Rotary Club of Prince Albert, Keith Fonstad said a lot of fundraising and work by them has happened to get to this point.

“About two and a half years of our internal events, so lobster-fest, the wine premier, those kinds of events,” Fonstad said. “It’s fantastic being at this part. Between providing the cheque today and working with our vendor on the designs and the plans to get construction started, it’s really nice to see the project at this point.”

Prince Albert Mayor, Greg Dionne commented on what the benefit of Rotary Adventure Park will be.

“First of all, it’s one of our jewels of the city, Little Red,” Dionne said. “Look at how much better [the Rotary Club is] going to make it. They are going to make the park a destination place to go in our area, that’s what excites me.

“And, it’s for the kids. To keep the kids active, I am really excited.”

The Rotary Adventure Park will be focused on youth eight to 14, offering a higher level of intensity and challenge than most other playgrounds in the city.

Features will include a climbing centre, parkour style circuit area, fitness area and elevated slides using the natural elevation available in the park. There will also be swings and stand-up sand table, upgraded picnic sites, new picnic shelters and expanded walking trails so there will be something for everyone from toddlers to seniors.
