MELFORT, Sask. — The Brandt Group of companies has announced they are creating over 1,000 new jobs this year.

These jobs will be the areas of IT, sales and different trades including hundreds in both Regina and Saskatoon.

Brandt’s agriculture division includes grain augers, GrainBelt conveyors, GrainCarts, GrainVacs, grain bagging and unloading equipment, and heavy harrows.

The quality of China’s wheat crop could have market implications.

The latest report from Sask Wheat said there are reports from that country on very high vomitoxin levels in the early harvest.

It’s believed overall crop conditions are not good and this could bring more attention to wheat.

The report compiled by Mercantile Consulting Venture also stated there were some better growing conditions in parts of the US. Wheat remains cheaper than corn and is decreasing the wheat balance sheet.

Farmers in Manitoba are very close to wrapping up seeding.

Manitoba Agriculture’s weekly crop report indicated 96 per cent of the crop is in the ground.

Frost was reported in most regions last week, with the lowest overnight temperatures in the northern Interlake region, reaching -8.9 at Narcisse, Man.

Damage from frost was limited, as the most susceptible crops had not emerged, meaning crop damage or reseed impact was smaller than expected.

Pasture and hay land is suffering due to the reported frosts and lack of moisture.
