P.A. McDonald’s no small fry in helping Ronald McDonald House Charities

Residents in Prince Albert supported families in need in a big way this past month.

Between April 20 and May 10, McDonald’s Canada donated a portion of the proceeds from every fry purchased at McDonald’s locations for their Fries for Good fundraiser to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Prince Albert was one of the top five fry cities in Canada, including Ontario cities Whitby, Hamilton, Woodstock, and Guelph.

Owner of McDonald’s in Prince Albert, Ken Malenfant is happy with the community support.

“Without the community, we can’t do any of this,” Malenfant said. “We are grateful for the community in Prince Albert and we’re happy to give back to the house.

“The two restaurants in Prince Albert were number one and number three in Canada for fry sales.”

Canadians raised $1.89 million in RMHC’s mission to keep families close. The fundraiser provided families support for 11,297 nights at Ronald McDonald houses and family rooms.

RMHC has 16 houses and 17 family rooms across Canada. RMHC’s revenues have declined by up to 60 per cent and operational costs have increased 30-50 per cent due to the current pandemic. One of the family rooms is in Prince Albert at the Victoria Hospital.

This is the second time McDonald’s has done this fundraiser, with proceeds here going towards the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon.

Even though the fundraiser is over, people can still support the Ronald McDonald House in many ways.

Customers can continue to round up their bill to the nearest dollar with the difference then being donated. Guests can also make donations in coin boxes set-up at all locations, and proceeds from every happy meal will go towards RMHC.

The Prince Albert locations will be hosting a fundraiser for RMHC at Cooke Municipal Golf Course on August 26. For more information about the tournament and how to donate look up RMHC Saskatchewan golf online.
