It was a busy night Saturday for local police after responding to a complaint of two adult males in an altercation with bladed weapons reportedly involved.

That’s according to a media release from La Ronge RCMP, which stated police responded to the call May 22 around 9:40 p.m. Officers attended to an apartment building on the 300 block of Mikisiw Drive in Far Reserve. Upon arrival, police officers heard gunshots from an unknown direction.

As a result of the gunshots, additional police officers attended, as well as several conservation officers as part of the Provincial Protection and Response Team. The La Ronge General Investigation Section and RCMP Emergency Response Team were also called to assist. To ensure public safety, residents in nearby apartments were asked to leave while the incident was ongoing.

RCMP also noted that while investigating the original report of an altercation and the subsequent gunshots, officers received a report of a distraught male inside one of the apartments. An adult male, who was the one with the bladed weapon, was safely taken into custody and treated at the hospital for mental health concerns.

No charges will be laid in relation to the incident. A search warrant was executed at two apartments and no firearms were located. The investigation into the gunshots is ongoing.
