Crews are making good progress on restoring power to eastern Saskatchewan.

In a news release late Saturday night, SaskPower media relations consultant Scott McGregor reported that workers had fixed most of the primary lines in the affected areas.

However, about 620 customers were still without power overnight.

The majority of those, about 390, were in the Melville area, with another 200 in the areas around Qu’Appelle, McLean, Vibank and Odessa, as well as 28 in the Yorkton area and two by Good Spirit Lake.

Crews are now focusing their attention on getting things running again in Melville.

“We are deploying crews from areas that have been restored to assist with the restoration effort and hope to make good progress (Sunday) in restoring power to affected homes,” the release read.

Widespread outages were caused across many areas of the east, including Yorkton and Melville, when an ice storm hit late Thursday night and early Friday morning. Freezing rain caused many trees to fall to the ground, which then broke power lines.
