Sun and rain ahead

The weather bringing some relief

May 21, 2021 | 2:48 PM

May long weekend is upon us with campers heading to the lake, gardeners and farmers seeding and fire fighters looking to the skies for relief.

This past week temperatures have gone from 30 above to below zero, not to mention the snowfall and freezing rain covering parts of the province. The Cloverdale fire and fire bans have farmers like Ryan Scragg looking for relief.

“I’ve lost several years of my life these last few days, the amount of stress this has caused,” he said.

Scragg is also the Reeve for Garden River which had to be evacuated during the big blaze and knows how important it is for the areas to receive some precipitation.

Environment Canada’s Terri Lang says the current weather system is moving out today with frost possible for tomorrow morning. She suggested to cover outdoor plants to avoid them freezing.

According to Environment Canada’s forecast, campers can look forward to sunny days Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the mid to high teens. Gardeners, farmers and fire fighters will have Monday to look forward to.

“Monday brings some rain and it looks like it’s a system that going to cover most of southern and central Saskatchewan so it looks like everyone should be picking up some rain,” Lang said.

Prince Albert’s forecast shows sun for Saturday with a high of 16C, cloudy for Sunday at 16C, and rain for Monday with highs for 17 C.
