PAEX Summer Fair forced to cancel for second straight year

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — For the second straight year, the Prince Albert Exhibition Summer Fair has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

“It wasn’t a decision that we wanted to make, but we felt with COVID, the restrictions, and that we wouldn’t have a Midway, that we just couldn’t go ahead with it,” PAEX president Donna Nagy said. “We’re disappointed too because we want to do the events just like everybody else does.”

The fair was slated to run from Aug. 3-7 this year, but plans need to be made well in advance. The PAEX outsources companies that employ workers from other countries and due to the pandemic, that has provided many difficulties. And in a pandemic world, it’s even harder to look too far into the future and know what the guidelines and restrictions will look like.

“The company that brings us the midway, they can’t get people to work because they use people from other countries—so they can’t get them. And we don’t know what the limitations for events will be, at this point, so we felt we had to say no again and we’ll look forward to next year,” Nagy said.
