SaskPower reports significant progress on outage repairs

May 19, 2021 | 5:13 PM

Around 8,000 homes that have been in the dark since Monday will likely have their power restored by 2 p.m. Thursday.

SaskPower made the announcement in a media release late Wednesday afternoon.

The Cloverdale Fire, which erupted Monday, northeast of Prince Albert damaged at least 10 transmission structures with some of them burnt to the ground. While fire conditions prevented crews from accessing the area until Wednesday morning, it appears they’ve since made good progress on repairs.

“Crews and equipment were able to safely mobilize to the damaged segments of the line this morning and will continue to work until power is restored. We currently have an estimated restore time of 2 p.m. tomorrow,” the release said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Lac La Ronge tri-communities declared a state of emergency as the power outage stretched into its third day with temperatures set to fall below zero overnight.

Also on Wednesday afternoon, SaskTel advised services had been restored in Emma Lake and Missinipe.
