Prince Albert to host 2022 Esso Cup April 17-23

May 18, 2021 | 4:50 PM

Hockey Canada has announced Prince Albert will host the Esso Cup national female U18 AAA club championship in 2022. This follows the cancellation in February of the event which was set for this year.

In a media release, Hockey Canada said P.A. will be home to the tournament for the third time at the Art Hauser Centre from April 17 – 23.

“We’re really excited to get the opportunity to host, it’s been a long time coming it’s been a long process but we’re really excited to get this thing rolling,” host committee chair Robin Wildey said. “We want to thank Hockey Canada for believing in us for hosting this great event.”

He explained last year there were no definitive dates set but now that there is it helps them reach their goal of the tournament going ahead.

No details have been set but the tournament committee will be meeting throughout the summer to review their plans and organizational progress over the last couple of years. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic Wildey is optimistic the teams will be able to play.

“Having the dates set in stone is a huge thing, we’re trending in the right way at least in Saskatchewan for sure,” he said. “We do believe that this event will get underway this year and we’re looking forward to it.

“I just want to thank everybody for sticking by us for the last couple of years. Our local committee has really been dedicated to putting this event on and we’re looking forward to hosting the teams across Canada, hosting some fans in the stands hopefully.”
