If a 94 Year Old Can Walk 300 KM – I Had Better Get Up Off the Quarantine Couch Too

May 12, 2021 | 10:33 AM

Currently there is a 94 year old man walking from Saskatoon to Regina to raise money for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Regina and the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Montreal.

That is nearly 300 Km and he hopes to get the walk done by his birthday June 15 when he will be 95.

What an inspiration!

Frank Atchison of Saskatoon who has been a Shriner for nearly 50 years, started the walk last month and is doing a bit every day until he reaches his goal.

He is another example of how setting the bar high every day of your life – and not using the classic, “I’m getting too old for such things”, will not only keep us healthy, happy and strong – but makes sure that as we age – even well into our 90s and beyond – we are still achieving lofty goals, contributing to the next generation and encouraging

others.

I’m 55 and honestly the thought of walking 300 km even over a period of a couple months is exhausting.

That is a 5 km walk a day in the heat on the highway for a dude that is almost 95 for such incredibly good causes. He is looking to the future with a heart of gold to help children in need.

So I challenge all of us 55 years of age and up to do something too.

On the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital webpage you can create a fundraising event of your own. Check out the link. https://pattisonchildrens.ca/pfpapplication/

I see all sorts of people using their weddings, birthdays and memorials as well as community events to raise funds.

One of the personal fundraisers is for Frank! So if you are not up to doing your own fundraiser support this young fella by clicking here https://pattisonchildrens.ca/events/wheres-frank/ or any of the other fundraisers here https://pattisonchildrens.ca/personal-fundraising-pages/

And I challenge all of us to not just be inspired by Frank and seniors like him … but to emulate him. What a role model!
