Allan and Team Canada going for gold at U18’s

Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Nolan Allan and the rest of Team Canada are going for gold tonight, as they will battle Russia in the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship in Frisco, Texas, tonight at 8 p.m.

Canada is an impressive 6-0 in the tournament and enter the finals as the only undefeated team. They’ve also outscored their opposition 18-4 in the playoffs and 46-9 overall in the tournament.

Canada defeated Sweden 8-1 on Wednesday to advance to the finals, after beating the Czech Republic 10-3 on Monday in the quarterfinals.

The Russians were tied for first in Group B with a 2-1-1 record, then went on to beat Belarus 5-2 in the quarters and 6-5 in the semifinals against Finland to advance to the gold medal game.

The Russians boast the two top scorers in the tournament in Matvei Michkov, who has 11 goals and 13 points in six games, and Nikita Chibrikov, who has four goals and 13 points. Regina Pat phenom Connor Bedard is Canada’s leading scorer with six goals and 12 points, after his hat trick in the semifinals. Shane Wright, Mason McTavish, and Francesco Pinelli all have 11 points for Canada.

Allan has a goal and an assist thus far in the tournament, with both points coming against Sweden.
