Sandy Bay man takes responsibility for young sister’s death

A man who was charged last year in the death of his three-year-old half-sister has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter.

Fabian Morin Jr., 22, was originally charged with second-degree murder but pled guilty to the lesser charge when the case was discussed Wednesday at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench. A pre-sentence report was ordered and the sentencing hearing was scheduled for June 22.

On April 9, 2020, Prince Albert Police were called to a home in the 800 block of 17th St. W. where they found the young girl unresponsive. Paramedics rushed her to hospital in Saskatoon, where she was pronounced deceased later that day.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, Morin was also facing charged with breach of undertaking. The previous November, he was one of six people charged after a violent incident at a residence in Sandy Bay.

In that incident, a 26-year-old man was attacked and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. For his alleged part in the incident, Morin was charged with assault causing bodily harm, endangering the life of a person, break-and-enter, and assault. Those will charges will be addressed Oct. 10.

Morin was released from custody Dec. 3, 2019, on a number of conditions including not visiting Sandy Bay. His approved residence upon his release was the home where the girl was found.

According to the girl’s obituary on paNOW.com, she had five sisters, and four brothers including Fabian Morin Jr.
