Apr 26, 2021 | 8:57 AM

A 30-acre grass fire east of Christopher Lake Sunday afternoon quickly grew due to high winds.

Shortly after 1 p.m., the Lakeland Fire Department responded to an area 11 miles east of Christopher Lake.

It took the crews five hours to suppress and mop up the fire.

The Buckland Volunteer Fire Dept. also responded to a pair of smaller grass fires on Sunday.

There was one later in the afternoon, just south of Ranch Erhlo. The other was in the early morning hours near Highway 355 and Acorn Road.

There’s currently a fire ban in place for the Rural Municipality of Buckland due to extreme fire hazards and applies to all outdoor fires, as well as fireworks.
