Apr 19, 2021 | 10:26 AM

MELFORT, Sask. — Agropur Cooperative will be closing its fluid milk plant in Winnipeg, Man.

The plant’s operations will be transferred to other Agropur fluid milk facilities in Western Canada.

Given current market conditions, Agropur made the decision to concentrate its fluid milk manufacturing operations at facilities in Burnaby and Victoria in British Columbia and Edmonton, Alta.

A total of 48 employees will be affected by the closure, planned for Sept. 24.

Agropur processes more than 6.6 billion litres of milk per year at its 33 plants across North America.

Nutrien Ltd. has a new chief executive officer.

Company chair Mayo Schmidt will succeed Chuck Magro, who is leaving to pursue new opportunities.

Schmidt joined the Viterra board as a director in 2012 and has been Nutrien’s chair since May 2019.

The new chair of Nutrien’s board of directors will be former TC Energy chief executive Russ Girling.

With Magro’s resignation from the board, Nutrien has decided to reduce the number of directors to 11 from 12.
