Former downtown restaurant to reopen as events space

Prince Albert city council has approved a development permit that will allow the downtown space most recently occupied by the Tartan Table restaurant to reopen as an event venue.

The building’s landlord Paul Luedtke told paNOW pandemic has made it challenging to rent out the property as a restaurant, but he’s had lots of requests from small groups who’ve wanted to use the space since the Tartan Table closed last spring.

The development permit will allow the Central Avenue location to be used for events like concerts, weddings, anniversaries, and business lunches.

Luedtke said there’s still some paperwork and inspections to finish with the city, but he anticipates the new venue will open in a month or so.

Meanwhile Carolyn Carlton with the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District said the reinvention of Luedtke’s space is just one of several upcoming developments in the downtown. Carlton said several downtown properties have recently sold and she’s been taking calls from investors across western Canada looking to purchase buildings in the area.

“They’re definitely seeing the upswing of everyone shopping local through everything that has happened over the past year and people want to be a part of that,” she said. “The large retail isn’t as popular as it once was and we’re seeing a definite resurgence in our downtown.”
