MELFORT, Sask. — The creation of a renewable diesel plant in Saskatchewan would pay huge dividends to the province’s farmers.

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) purchased True North Renewable Fuels which was in the process of creating a proposal for a diesel production facility in Regina.

FCL vice-president Pam Skotnitsky said there is a lot of work to do before the plant can be operational. She estimated it will take roughly four years to get it off the ground.

The 20,000 barrel a day facility would require one million tonnes of canola oil per year.

The Saskatchewan Government is welcoming a new agriculture seeding technology company to the province.

Clean Seed is expanding its operations through the lease of a newly built 16,000 square foot facility located in Saskatoon.

The facility will focus on electronics and machine assembly, sales, customer experience, customer training, parts, service, warranty, as well as research and development.

Clean Seed will become the first company in the province to benefit from the Saskatchewan Commercial Innovation Incentive (SCII) program.

The tax incentive offers eligible corporations a reduction of the provincial Corporate Income Tax Rate to six per cent for 10 consecutive years for corporations that commercialize their intellectual property in Saskatchewan.
