‘Loving, caring, most open-hearted woman’: Family remembers mother of 6 killed in crash

A family is left reeling after six kids no longer have a mother following a deadly rollover.

“They’re broken. The youngest don’t quite understand. (One of them) is asking if she can text Mom and talk to Mom,” said Ty-Ara Fossum, the sister of Sheena Hearn. “It’s been difficult for them but they’re surrounded by all their family now and are feeling all the love.”

Hearn, 36, was killed in a rollover south of Kindersley on Highway 21 on Tuesday. She was the mother to six children — five girls and one boy — with the oldest being 12 and the youngest just one. One of them is turning eight in just three days.

“She was the most loving, caring, most open-hearted woman there ever was. If there was anyone out there who was meant to be a mom with that many kids, it was her,” Fossum said.

Hearn’s kids will be living with Fossum and her husband, who already had three kids of their own.

“It’s been a transition for our entire family. There’s moving six people across the province and making sure everyone’s doing OK and making sure there’s room in our homes for all of them and that they’re still feeling loved and cared for and taken care of after all this,” Fossum said.

Once they arrived home near Melville, they were welcomed by a surprise from members of the community.

“We came home after a 17-hour drive yesterday, our fridge was full and we had bins and bins of clothes and baby items and hair products and teddy bears and blankets — everything we need for the future,” Fossum said.

A GoFundMe has also been set up to raise money for funeral costs and to create an education fund for the six kids. It has already raised more than $17,000 of the $25,000 goal.

“Everyone has bent over backwards to make sure we are all set up and don’t have to worry about a single thing,” Fossum said. “I can’t even describe the gratitude my entire family has for everything.”
