Three years ago, lacrosse in Prince Albert started to think outside of the ‘box.’

Field lacrosse was introduced, and the Prince Albert Attack program was born.

Kade Beaton, Caidyn Prediger, Bauer Swystun and Davin Ikert all signed up for the first season. And now, all four have committed to American universities through their beloved sport.

At the start of 2021, Beaton and Prediger both committed to Quincy University, a NCAA Div. 2 school in Quincy, Ill. Swystun will head way down south to Westcliff University, a NAIA school in Irvine, Cal.

And now most recently, Ikert signed on the dotted line with the University of Mount Olive, a NCAA Div. 2 school in Mount Olive, N.C.

According to Prince Albert Lacrosse president Javan Bexson, the only other Prince Albert product that played post-secondary lacrosse out of Prince Albert was Brendan Rooney, won went on to win the NCAA Championship in 2018 with the Yale Bulldogs. He also started playing field lacrosse after he moved to Saskatoon, as there wasn’t a field lacrosse program in Prince Albert at the time.

Bexson said it was big to have four players in the same year make commitments to post-secondary schools so soon after the field lacrosse program was introduced in the city.

“It’s awesome. You’ve got the younger players watching these guys make the commitments and they’re wanting to do similar things or even take it a little further,” Bexson said. “They’re all excited to see players that they’re working with have these opportunities. They’re trying to strive and achieve the same thing. That’s awesome.”

Div. 2 and NAIA schools are great opportunities to not only get post-secondary education but to continue to play lacrosse at a high level.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for them individually and it shows a lot about their character as people, too. They’re all great kids that have strong academics as well. It’s great for them to play for four more years. A lot of guys, it will be rec league or no lacrosse, but these guys will be able to play at a high level.”
