All school buses cancelled Monday due to winter storm risk

Mar 29, 2021 | 7:32 AM

All buses are cancelled today, morning and afternoon, with First Student for the Catholic School Division.

The risk of freezing rain, high winds and snowfall also forced the cancellation of all Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division buses.

Schools remain open.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the area. A strong low pressure system and cold front tracking eastwards across the central Prairies is expected to bring severe winds gusting to 100 km/h, heavy snow, blowing snow, and potential flash freeze conditions Monday.

The worst of the winds, snow, and blowing snow will continue into the evening before finally easing through the night. Final snowfall totals of about 10 to 15 cm are expected. Conditions will continue to steadily improve through Tuesday as the low pressure system tracks off into Manitoba.
