MELFORT, Sask. – Western Canadian Wheat Growers are putting their support behind the merger of the Canadian Pacific (CP Rail) and Kansas City Southern Class one rail lines.

Chair Daryl Fransoo said providing rail coverage from coast-to-coast in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico will mean seamless movement of raw resources and finished goods throughout North America.

He said connecting all the North American participants in the grain market ensures there is improved reliability, competition and capacity across North America and will enhance trade.

Fertilizer Canada has launched its new safety and security brand.

Fertilize Safe program brings all of Fertilizer Canada’s mandatory, audited safety codes and training resources under one umbrella brand with the goal of keeping employees, farmers, first responders and the public safe.

The new brand will focus on enforcing standards and Codes of Practice, promoting the use of training resources and supporting education through e-learning programming.

A new study will identify the key factors limiting red spring wheat yield potential.

Producers are needed to take part in a prairie-wide project to generate baseline producer data on Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) wheat management practices.

The project will identify the main factors that prevent wheat producers from obtaining potential yields achievable on individual farms.

Interested producers would need to provide grain yield and agronomic data for at least two CWRS fields from 2019 and 2020.
