A Prince Albert woman has made the best of her time during the COVID-19 pandemic by focussing on her passion for writing. Cindy Koob released her first book, which has already garnered a lot of interest.

“It provided a positive focus and a creative outlet during a year that would have been marked as fearful and uncertain,” Koob said. “It was something fun to produce, that I would have otherwise not had time to pursue.”

The picture book entitled Nobody Tells Me What to Do is geared toward children ages three to eight.

“It’s a fun and engaging story of a boy named Dillon who decides one day to be his own boss. At first, he feels a sense of pride and joy in his newfound freedom, but soon his tummy starts to feel a little funny. What happens next gives him a lesson in leadership that will last a lifetime,” Koob said.

The book is only beginning to hit the shelves, but interest seems to be strong, according to Koob. She credits the talent of her illustrator, Calgary-based artist Ori Chalbaud.

“Ori really brought the story to life with her skillful capturing of expressions and circumstances. Her artistry, pleasant personality, and experience as an illustrator made her a dream to work with.”

Koob hopes her book will not only entertain children and adults alike but also provide a teachable moment.

“For parents and educators to teach children about the importance of leadership and how it matters in everyday life.”

The book is currently available through Amazon, Westbow Press, and Barnes and Noble, but Koob is hoping to see it stocked at Indigo and other Saskatchewan book stores, as well.
