Hundreds of free thermometers available for tri-community residents

Residents of the tri-communities can help themselves to free oral thermometers available at several locations.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority through HealthLine 811 has delivered 500 thermometers to the tri-communities as part of an effort to combat barriers to self-checking temperatures.

La Ronge mayor Colin Ratushniak said it’s important residents take their temperatures often, especially before going to work, school or public places as an abnormal temperature could be an early indicator of COVID-19.

“There are no stipulations to it, anyone can get one,” he said. “What 811 is trying to do is collect some data, so they can continue to evolve and make health a priority in our province. The three questions that need to be answered are do you have a thermometer, have you heard of 811 and how many people do you have in your household?”

Thermometers can be picked up at Jeannie Bird Clinic, Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre, Air Ronge and La Ronge municipal offices, La Ronge Health Centre and La Ronge Medical Clinic. The thermometers are available during regular business hours.

Ratushniak noted the thermometers have already been available to the public for a few days.

“From what I have heard from the locations I have dropped them off, there’s been quite a bit of interest with people stopping by and picking them up, or specifically calling into the offices asking if they can get them,” he said. “Which is really good news because the more we can have out in the community, the better we can track our personal health.”
