Four community clubs benefit from city grant

Four community clubs around the city are getting funds for lighting upgrades and other repairs.

On Monday night, city council approved $13,891 for work at the clubs’ facilities as part of a $15,000 annual grant program that reimburses clubs for half the cost of some repairs and maintenance work.

Community clubs in East End, Crescent Heights, Carlton Park, and East Hill were beneficiaries this year.

“The community clubs are operated through volunteers who do tremendous work,” sport and recreation manager for the city, Curtis Olsen told paNOW. “So, the rec facility grant is there as a tool to provide them support so they can continue to invest in their facilities.”

The East Hill facility received $4,459 to help pay for new LED lighting throughout the rink and upgraded plugins in the dressing rooms.

“The new lighting brightens it up and it saves the city money on their power bills,” Ken Dyck of the East Hill Community Club said.
