Meadow Lake serious assault suspect makes brief court appearance

Mar 12, 2021 | 11:43 AM

Following his first court appearance in Meadow Lake court, by phone link, Jordan Nelson will remain in custody ahead of his bail hearing set for later this month.

Nelson was arrested by Meadow Lake RCMP earlier this week after a serious assault that led to officials alerting the community of the incident.

According to updated information given by RCMP, on March 10, police were informed of the incident that occurred at a rural location in the RM of Meadow Lake. Nelson had fled the scene and was said to be carrying an axe with him at the time.

Officers from several detachments spread across the community searching for the suspect and issued a SaskAlert advising the public not to approach the man or his vehicle. Within an hour, RCMP were able to locate the suspect and arrest him without incident.

Local EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he remains receiving medical care. The victim is a 74-year-old man from Meadow Lake who was known to Nelson. Officials will not be updating the public on the victim’s condition.

Nelson has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a weapon. His bail hearing is set for March 25 at 1:30 p.m. where he will be attending via video conference from Prince Albert Correctional Institution.
