Muskeg Lake CN and Sask Polytech partner together
The Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and Saskatchewan Polytechnic have partnered together.
On Friday, Muskeg Lake and Sask Polytech released a joint statement about the memorandum of understanding the two parties agreed to, over a five-year period.
The collaboration will “explore opportunities to promote meaningful skills training and educational opportunities for the youth of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and ways to amplify community economic development and growth for the First Nation community,” the release reads.
“The focus of future plans is to include membership in decision-making processes as well as to become self-sufficient individuals. The idea of training our own members lead to the negotiations with Sask Polytech,” said Muskeg Lake Cree Nation Chief and Council. “Through the provision and access to certified training, our goal is to enable employment opportunities for our members. We want to provide our members with an opportunity to train in an environment that will build up their confidence and self-esteem. This is the initial step in preparing youth and adults to build on their skills and set their goals toward higher levels of training and potential journeymanship. We look forward to the next five years of building relationships while providing a wealth of opportunities for our membership.”
