Local Canadian Tire Toffifee sales lead to big donation to Rose Garden Hospice

As owner of the local Canadian Tire, Malcolm Jenkins has donated $30,000 towards the Rose Garden Hospice.

The Hospice has now raised $2.6 million of their $4 million goal.

On Friday, Jenkins told paNOW the money donated is from Toffifee sales during November and December 2020, which is the only time of the year the Canadian Tire carries the sweet treat. He added this is the fifth year they’ve sold it and sales have gone up every year with 2020 being their biggest year yet.

When asked if he was still the number one Toffifee seller in the world, it seems he hasn’t given up the title quite yet.

“In the world, in the chartered universe, in the known stratosphere, anywhere in the globe, yes that’s us,” he said.

Jenkins credited the residents of Prince Albert for buying Toffifee “who came on board for a great cause again.”

“There’s 40,000 of us, right? And I could stand on the roof of my store all day long and say, ‘the hospice is a great thing, and we need it, and your mom and dad may need it, or you may need it.’ It’s a terrific thing and it’s pretty much a no brainer,” Jenkins said.

“In England, they got 1,000 or 1,200 [hospices], in Canada we got about 12 or 20 I think total. It’s a wonderful end of life thing I mean I’d like to go in such a serene manor with the right care and just the whole thing.”

He said they keep the product at the front of their store during Christmas so hundreds or thousands of people pass by it every day. He said they do it every year to keep relaying the message of the hospice until it’s built.

“People know it’s for a good cause and then they see it coming now it’s almost like the first snowfall. ‘Here it is, it’s the Toffifee sale lets grab some’ even though maybe you don’t like chocolate and you give it to someone who does,” he said.

“It’s become a tradition in P.A.”
