Voices of the North and Fiddle Show streaming this weekend during P.A. Winter Festival

Feb 12, 2021 | 3:00 PM

This weekend, two huge Prince Albert Winter Festival events will take over the internet in Prince Albert.

The prerecorded web-stream for the Voices of the North Show will kick off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, before a livestream of the Fiddle Show from the EA Rawlinson Centre will start stomping on Sunday. The Voices of the North series will also continue throughout the festival, with streams planned for Feb. 18 and 20, as well.

Although these events are traditionally held in person and draw considerable crowds, there’s optimism among the winter festival organizers the online formats could attract more people to watch from the comfort of their warm, cozy homes.

“We’re kind of excited about it actually, because I think we’re going to reach more of an audience,” said Barry Mihilewicz, Prince Albert Winter Festival Coordinator. “It’s more accessible to people who couldn’t get out otherwise, it’s more accessible to people from out of town who may not want to drive in when it’s this cold. And the shows are going to be top notch.”

The Voices of the North Show will not have an admission cost, but viewers can donate to the winter festival if they choose. The show will be available from the Prince Albert Winter Festival Facebook page or their YouTube account, starting at 7 p.m.

The live Fiddle Show will come with a $15 admission fee through the EA Rawlinson box office. The show will also have an in-person crowd of 30 people, which have already sold out.

In addition to the two shows, the winter festival is selling 50-50 and raffle tickets to help fund the cost of putting on the shows. And snow sculptures have been popping up throughout the city.

“We’re doing everything we can,” Mihiliewicz said. “We have snow sculptures around the city, there’s six of them up and we’re putting up two more today so they can be carved next week.”
