SaskMusic is pleased to confirm that the 2020 Saskatchewan Music Awards will be revealed in a special pre-filmed event premiering Sunday, January 24, 8pm CT on SaskMusic’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The awards are intended to honour excellence and celebrate the achievements of our Saskatchewan music industry members over the past year. Performers for the virtual event will include ADEOLUWA, Last Birds, Belle Plaine, and The North Sound. Winners in 14 categories will be announced.

The winner of “Album of the Year” for 2020 was previously named, through the Best Saskatchewan Albums of the Year public poll held in December 2020. Tenille Arts is the recipient for her release “Love, Heartbreak, & Everything in Between.”

Additional albums that made the Top Ten on the BSA list included (with ties) the following: JJ Voss, “Come Along With Me”; Jesse Brown, “Where To?”; The Garrys, “Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (Original Score)”; The North Sound, “As The Stars Explode”; Ellen Froese & Campbell Woods, “Farm Boy Sings The Blues”; Jay & Jo, “Victory”; Aaron Karpinka, “Tender Heart”; Saintvicious, “Saintvicious”; Skizza, “Things I Found”; Yvonne St. Germaine, “Sorrow Road”; Marshall Burns, “Dogs and Booze”; 3 Moonjask, “Lunar Elixir”; Factor Chandelier, “First Storm”; and Midnight Gallows, “Attack Warning Red”.

SaskMusic Executive Director Mike Dawson notes, “While we can’t gather for a physical event this year, we still have much to celebrate – the resilience of our music industry workers, the continued creativity of our artists, producers and many others, and the hope that we’ll be able to return to live music sometime in 2021.

The music industry around the world has been severely impacted by necessary public health measures to control the spread of COVID-19. Its workers include not only musicians and artists, but live music venues, festivals, sound techs, stage and touring personnel, publicists, event suppliers and so many more. We hope you will join us in celebrating our industry, continue to support local music wherever you can, and tune in to the awards this Sunday.”
