MELFORT, Sask. – Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a case of cattle rustling.

A rancher reported 35 cows and 28 calves were taken from multiple locations between Moosomin and Fairlight.

The animals have an identifying brand with a bar over a TE. There were 22 black and whites, as well as 13 red in colour. The steer calves have green ear tags while the heifer calves have yellow ear tags.

It’s not known exactly when the cows and calves were taken but it’s estimated the theft happened between October and December.

Livestock Services are providing assistance by monitoring auction markets.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Four more fields have been added to Manitoba’s clubroot map.

Although it’s not a lot, Dan Froese with Manitoba Agriculture said there is a need to be alert.

“Every year there seems to be a number of fields that come up for whatever reason or a farmer that’s just being more vigilant or environmental conditions that trigger a response,” Froese said.

Two of those cases, in the RM’s of Roblin and Alexander, previously did not have symptomatic fields.

The total number of fields with signs of clubroot disease is now 39 across the province in 10 municipalities.

Dairy producers will be receiving a letter soon with directions on how to access the second payment under the Dairy Direct Payment Program.

Dairy farmers will receive, on the basis of their milk quota, cash payments of $468 million in 2020-21, $469 million in 2021-22, and $468 million in 2022-23.

Producers must register for the program through the Canadian Dairy Commission prior to March 31.

The federal government promised compensation worth $1.75 billion to dairy producers for the market access concessions made under recent trade deals.

Consultations with chicken, egg, turkey and hatchery egg sectors representatives are underway to design a $691 million, 10-year compensation program.
