MELFORT, Sask. – It has been a good year for Canadian spring wheat exports.

An additional two million metric tonnes were shipped which is an increase of 29 per cent over last year.

The SaskWheat market report said wheat exports for week 23 were pegged at 449,000 metric tonnes.

The report, prepared by Mercantile Consulting Ventures, predicts markets will be slow during the week following the big rally in markets after the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.

Traders are continuing to watch the weather in South America, any new developments in Russia’s export tax and whether China will continue to buy aggressively at current higher prices.

Canola Council of Canada (CCC) held a virtual mission with South Korea in an effort to build on its already strong relationship.

Presentations and discussions centered on canola production, health and versatility of canola oil, and canola processing.

Exports to South Korea in 2019, reached 153,000 metric tonnes which is Canada’s third largest export market.

Saskatchewan heifer prices were lower in all weight categories.

Heavier feeder heifers managed to hold their values a little better with the biggest declines in the lightweight categories. Heifer prices averaged $185.14 per hundredweight.

The largest price increase for feeder steers was $2.75 per hundredweight was in the 600-to-700-pound weight class. The average provincial price was $197.13 per hundredweight.

Canfax reported roughly 10,600 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan last week.
