Prince Albert police report suspected homicide

Prince Albert Police Service is dealing with its first homicide investigation of 2021.

Just before midnight on Jan. 9, officers made a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Sixth Avenue West to investigate an erratic driver. They found a man in the vehicle suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries.

Parkland Ambulance paramedics attended the scene and transported the 21-year-old to the Victoria Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Officers later attended a residence in the 800 block of 13th Street West and are expected to remain in the area today as they continue to investigate.

A suspect has been identified, police say. The suspect and the victim are believed to be known to each other.

The identities of the victim and the suspect have not been released.

Police are asking the public to contact the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers if they observed or heard anything suspicious in the 800 block of 13th Street West around 11:45 p.m. the evening of Jan. 9.

The investigation remains ongoing.
