Ontario reports record COVID-19 cases, hospital CEO warns of vaccine shortage

Jan 8, 2021 | 10:33 AM

Canada’s most populous province has shattered another record for new daily COVID-19 infections.

Ontario is reporting 4,249 new cases today, a record-breaking figure even as it factors in 450 earlier infections which were delayed in the tally.

The province also had 26 additional deaths from the virus.

The grim update comes as the CEO of a Toronto hospital that is running vaccination clinics warned it is about to run out of shots.

Kevin Smith with the University Health Network says on Twitter that there are thousands of immunization appointments scheduled for the weekend.

Premier Doug Ford has warned in recent days that the province is going to run out of vaccines if it does not receive another shipment soon.
