New Year’s Poetry Contest

To continue spreading cheer Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) Prince Albert is doing a Poetry Contest and the winner will receive a $50 gift card from #Propaganda.

Poems are a great way of expressing yourself! They can be short and sweet, don’t need to be grammatically correct, words can be spelled however you want and sentences can flow all over your page.

Take a chance and put your creativity out there to possibly win a prize.

Contest Details:

For Ages: 14 – 30.

Poems must be original and have a New Year’s theme.

Poems must be submitted by January 8th, 2021.

You can submit poems by Email or to us on Facebook.

Poems can be submitted anonymously but we will need your contact information if you win.

Local artist John McDonald will be judging the contest!

Winners will be announced January 12th.

Here is some background information about John McDonald:

John McDonald is a writer, artist, historian, musician, playwright, actor and activist originally from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The great-great-great grandson of Chief Mistawasis of the Plains Cree, John’s writings and artwork have been displayed in various publications, private and permanent collections and galleries around the world, including the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

He is the author of the 2020 poetry collection “Childhood Thoughts and Water,” published by Bookland Press.

John has studied at England’s prestigious University of Cambridge, where in July 2000 he made international headlines by symbolically ‘discovering’ and ‘claiming’ England for the First Peoples of the Americas.

John is also an acclaimed public speaker, who has presented in venues across the globe. John’s artwork and writing have been nominated for several awards, including the 2001 Saskatchewan Aboriginal Youth Achievement Award. John was awarded the 2017 BOB Award for Best Artist. He has been honoured with several grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
