‘It seemed like the person was trying to drive at us’: RCMP investigate impaired driving incident

Dec 21, 2020 | 12:00 PM

A close call near Rosthern Sunday afternoon, involving a southbound SUV driving into oncoming traffic and narrowly missing a number of vehicles, is being investigated as a driver impaired by drugs, according to RCMP.

The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Weather conditions at the time were already less than favourable. Fortunately there were no injuries, as the driver did not hit anyone and was arrested without incident.

Victor Marsollier was driving to Prince Albert from Saskatoon, with his 17-year-old daughter in the passenger seat, and was among the drivers forced to take evasive action.

“It seemed like the person was trying to drive at us however it could have been someone who was either dazed or confused,” he said.

Marsollier said he slowed down and began to flash his high beams and honk his horn, but the car kept coming toward him so he followed his instincts.

“We are all taught to drive that when things hit the fan, pull over, stop, make yourself safe,” he said.

A number of other people belonging to the Facebook group, Prince Alberta and Area to Saskatoon Number 11 Highway, reported a similar experience.

“We were so scared she was gonna hit someone. We tried to flag her down and she just kept passing approaches and didn’t pull over,” one woman wrote.

“We also passed her. Or she passed us. She was absolutely flying,” another person wrote.

A spokesperson for the RCMP confirmed for paNOW the female driver of the SUV was arrested and no charges have been laid at this time.
