Rose Garden Hospice receives $10,000, over halfway to final goal

The Rose Garden Hospice, which is just over halfway to its $4 million goal, has received another donation toward the new building.

Chuck and Linda Miller made a $10,000 donation Friday morning at the Gateway Mall. Chuck operated Miller Contracting in Prince Albert since 1972 but sold his shares to the company in 2006. He also ran Hubel Insulating and sold it five years ago.

Miller said throughout himself and his corporations he has donated to quite a few different causes including the Special Olympics and the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

“The Rose Garden Hospice, you know I’ve known the Daschuk family for many years and it’s something that’s close to my heart,” he said.

He explained he was going to donate to them at the start of the year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic his investments went down.

“Thankfully, they’ve came back fairly nicely now so I decided before year-end to do my donation to Rose Garden Hospice because this is something Prince Albert really needs,” Miller said. “Everybody has families that they’ve lost, and the Rose Garden Hospice is going to be a special place to go if you have someone that only has a few days or a week or less than a month to live… it’s something we should have had many years ago.”

Marina Mitchell, a board member with the Rose Garden Hospice said they are just over $2.4 million and hope to have shovels in the ground this upcoming spring.

“We are very hopeful and that’s the plan we’re going with right now so we’re just going to keep going forward with that and hopefully more of these donations roll in,” Mitchell explained.

They hope to do one more major fundraiser, which is currently in the works, in the new year before they begin construction.
