Parkland Ambulance delivers personal safety manuals to students and awards top employees

Dec 9, 2020 | 12:24 PM

Parkland Ambulance is partnering with the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division to deliver personal safety manuals and resources to students in Prince Albert.

The manuals are produced by Community Safety Net and are sponsored by multiple businesses in the community.

This is the seventh year Parkland is delivering these health and safety resources to students in the city. In past years paramedics have been able to go into schools and present a personal safety demonstration. This year, the manuals have been delivered to schools and will be handed out to Grade 6 students. Information provided in the safety manuals aligns with Grade 6 health studies and will be added as a part of the curriculum.

Director of Public Affairs for the Parkland Ambulance, Lyle Karasiuk said the manuals have already been delivered to the school division.

“We have over 550 books, which we were happy to present to the Sask Rivers School Division yesterday,” Karasiuk said. “They in turn will fan them out across the division in the coming weeks, hopefully before Christmas.”

The manuals provide information on health and safety, bullying, internet safety, and first aid.

Karasiuk added if teachers want classroom demonstrations on first aid from a paramedic, they are more than happy to provide one virtually.

“We have a number of our paramedic educators who are more than happy to work with the students on a particular lesson, and do that virtually,” Karasiuk said. “Whether it’s before Christmas, or into the New Year we will be able to connect with some of those classrooms to help them along with the important health and safety lessons.”

Parkland Ambulance Annual Awards

This week the Parkland Ambulance also named the recipients for their annual service awards, including employee of the year, rookie of the year, and telecommunicator of the year.

This year there are three employees who were named employee of the year. Chris Pacey, Ramsay Bellisle, and JJ Fenez. The rookie of the year is Jayden Samson, and the telecommunicator of the year is Betty Lussier.

Lyle Karasiuk explained the awards are voted for those who go above and beyond for the community.

One of the three employees of the year, Chris Pacey said it is an honour to receive the award among his peers.

“It’s awesome, those two guys are absolutely remarkable at their jobs, and very deserving of the award,” Pacey said.

Annual employment awards were awarded to, Jessica Anderson, Elliott Haines, Levon Nagy, Kate Sander, and Marty Taylor for five years of service. Oliver Jantz celebrated 10 years of service. Brody Anderson is celebrating 15 years with Parkland Ambulance, and Sheldon Hirschfield was awarded an employment award for 25 years of service.
