Friendship Between Students and Seniors

Ecole Arthur Pechey School and Mont St Joseph Home – Give a Bit, Get a Bit

Dec 9, 2020 | 1:30 PM

The friendship between Ecole Arthur Pechey School and Mont St Joseph Home started in Sept 2018.

Intergenerational programs were planned and for almost two years all of the students volunteered at Mont St Joseph Home with residents during the following programs: bingo, exercises and indoor games, walks outside, and drumming. Residents also went to school participating in art, classroom and outdoor cultural events.

Due to Covid 19 our programs needed to change, so programs were developed to facilitate our friendships that could be done in a virtual format. Our Zoom programs include art, drumming, bingo and Aboriginal storytelling.

Mrs. Jennifer Henry, Grade 3 teacher at Ecole Arthur Pechey School, has used this opportunity to teach her students about creating a fundraiser that benefits others, calling it “Give a Bit, Get a Bit”.

This fundraiser was designed to share a bit of joy to the residents and staff of Mont St Joseph Home.

The students raised enough money to drop off Hot Chocolate and Timbits.

A Zoom gathering is set to share the treats together virtually while the students in Mrs Henry’s Grade 3 class, read a completed school assignment to Mont St Joseph residents.

This special drop off includes staff coordinating the program, Shea Pilon and Brandi Sparboe, from Arthur Pechey School Shannon Meyers, and Rae Ann Paziuk Mont St Joseph Home ! plus representatives from Tim Hortons Marquis Drive Location!

Merry Christmas from Ecole Arthur Pechey School and Mont St Joseph Home
