I Am Back!
I never thought that I had the writers’ bug in me.
My attempt at writing goes back to my High School years. In my last year of High School, I was President of a student ornithological society (a bird watching club). Besides looking at many birds in the field, as President, I was charged with fundraising. It was a constant struggle until I came up with a brilliant idea. I decided to write my first book – a scientific adventure.
We copied it on the school stencil machine and sold many copies at an inflated price and our birdwatching club had enough money in the bank for the whole year. Sadly, I lost the original transcript in Flemish. In those days, I also wrote a lot of poetry which did not get lost. I used poetry to deal with many emotional problems I had caused by losing my parents in a terrible accident when I was a tender sixteen years old.
In the early 90’s I started writing articles for Indigenous Woman, a First Nations publication in Edmonton. In 1994, I was hired as the Silver Anniversary Coordinator for the Metis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan. One of their outreach projects was to provide a monthly article about addiction issues in a number of weekly and daily newspapers around Saskatchewan.
