Nov 30, 2020 | 5:44 PM

There are a number of Prince Albert locations listed on the latest COVID-19 outbreak list from the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA).

An outbreak is declared whenever two or more people test positive for COVID-19 in a non-household setting, for example a hospital, work place or long-term care home.

SHA no longer issues specific media releases listing outbreaks, but an updated list is on the Government of Saskatchewan website.

Personal care homes

The Saskatchewan Health Authority declared outbreaks at two personal care homes in Prince Albert in the last 10 days. Management report residents and staff are doing well. Two people have tested positive at each of the facilities.

Angie Kopera, manager at River Breeze Personal Care Home, which had an outbreak declared Nov. 27, told paNOW a staff member at the facility tested positive on Nov. 14. All staff and residents on the floor where the positive staff member worked were tested and one resident returned a positive result. Kopera said that resident continues to be asymptomatic and has one week of isolation left. Meanwhile, the affected staff member has completed a two-week isolation period and has been cleared to come back to work.

Owner of Elite Care Home in Prince Albert, Harpreet Braish said two residents at the facility have tested positive. The outbreak there was declared by SHA on Nov. 21. Both residents are in hospital in good condition. Other residents and staff tested negative, but staff who worked with the positive residents will continue to isolate until Dec. 2.

Dialysis unit among other new cases

The Victoria Hospital’s dialysis unit was added to the outbreak list as of Nov. 28. paNOW contacted SHA to find out how the department and patients may be impacted.

Other outbreaks added to the list include St. Alban’s Anglican Cathedral, U15 Bantam Thunder Hockey and U18 Lehner Electric Foxes Hockey (all Nov. 27).

Outbreaks remain listed until officially declared over by an SHA Medical Health Officer.
