Wallace Stegner House, one of Canada’s first writer/artist residencies needs your help

As part of a rich legacy for 30 years, the House has hosted over 250 artists and writers from around the world. It is administered by Eastend Arts Council, a registered charity and not-for-profit.

Launching a GoFundMe campaign to stay afloat in these times

Stegner House is launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to subsidize residency fees for artists and writers, cover operational and administrative costs, continue programming for the community, and maintain and repair this Municipal Heritage Property.

Wallace Stegner the celebrated writer and environmentalist was deeply committed to the advancement of writers. He founded the Stanford Creative Writing Program and Writing Fellowships in 1946. Saskatchewan author and environmentalist, Trevor Herriot, observed that Stegner’s triumph as an artist-activist, was a “letter he wrote in 1960 that led to the passing of The Wilderness Act… defend[ing] more than 100 million acres of Federal public lands from any activity or development that would destroy it.”
