Volunteers wanted to help shape city of P.A. policy and vision

A newly-elected city council brings fresh hopes, vision and responsibilities for the years ahead, but there are also non-politicians who help shape plans.

With volunteer intake now open for various city boards and committees in Prince Albert, city clerk Sherry Person says they’re looking for individuals who are interested in engaging on civic matters and providing their ideas and constructive input.

“This new council will be considering their budget to be completed in January and will work on their strategic plan, probably in about March, and they’re going to want to move forward with their four-year plan for their term,” Person said. “I think they have great ideas… and I’d encourage people to apply so they can be involved in those great initiatives coming forward.”

Person said community-based committees were put on the back burner following the COVID outbreak and there was reduced reporting leading up to the November election. However, she said going forward, remote technology would be in place so committees could do their work.

“The technology [like Zoom] is in place, and our committee members can bring forward their ideas. I think people should apply to have their voices and ideas heard,” she said.

Boards and committees cover a wide array of areas including the police commissioners, library, budget, airport, community services, golf club, downtown business improvement, to name a few.

Applications to be on one of the boards or committees will be accepted until Dec. 17.

Generally, people chosen will need to serve between one and two years but that can vary.

Those interested can fill out the Board and Committee Application Form, online or by completing the form at the City Clerk’s Office, second floor, City Hall, 1084 Central Avenue.
