The Shellbrook RCMP are investigating a homicide on the Mistawasis First Nation.

According to a media release, the RCMP were called on Tuesday night to a home on the Mistawasis First Nation to help EMS with an unconscious man who was found outside where the paramedics pronounced him dead.

The man was Troy Watson, a 36-year-old man from Mistawasis First Nation. His next of kin has been notified.

The police requested more resources to help in their investigation by the Prince Albert and Tisdale RCMP Forensic Identification Services, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North (MCU-N) and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.

Based on the investigation so far, information received by police and by working with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service has determined the death will be investigated as a homicide. The Sask. RCMP MCU-N is leading the investigation.

An autopsy will take place in Saskatoon today and police continue to investigate the circumstances of his death. The residents of the First Nation will see an increased police presence in the area.

Those who have had contact with Watson on Tuesday and have any information can contact the RCMP at 306-747-2606.
