P.A. civic elections underway

Nov 9, 2020 | 10:51 AM

Prince Albert election officials are in place at all voting stations today and are bracing for a surge in voting later on as the heavy snowy conditions and roads gradually improve.

Returning officer Sherry Person figures people will still come out to vote like many others have already done with the drive-thru advance polls and mail-in voting in recent weeks.

“The people who want to vote will definitely come out to the polls and vote,“ returning officer Sherry Person told paNOW. “I believe as the day goes on we will see those numbers rising.”

The Government of Saskatchewan announced Monday that each returning officer across the province had the power to postpone or delay their civic election for a number of weeks if necessary, but Person said that would not be happening in Prince Albert.

“All our election staff are ready and willing to take the public’s votes. The polling stations are open and we’ve seen people coming in to vote already. Most of our election officials got to work [on time], some were delayed, and I think we’ll see our citizens doing the same,” she said.

“The roads will be improving, the main thoroughfares are already open and I think you’ll see all our poll workers at the polls are there waiting to take people’s votes.

”This happens once every four years and this is your opportunity to have your voice heard.”

RM elections also proceeding

Both the RM of Prince Albert and RM of Buckland elections are still a go today as well, according to their respective administrators.

All voting runs until 8 p.m.
