Classes cancelled at École St. Anne after COVID-19 cases

Nov 9, 2020 | 7:22 PM

Officials with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) identified two positive COVID-19 cases at École St. Anne School today, Nov. 9 which will lead to the cancellation of classes on Tuesday.

The cases are not deemed to be school acquired and in the interest of privacy protection, the school is not able to provide details of the individuals.

The two positive cases were announced five days after a previous COVID-19 case at the school.

The possible exposure was with two specific classrooms and cohorts. Officials with the SHA continue to assess the situation and all identified close contacts with the individuals will be notified.

“As an additional precaution, the Saskatchewan Health Authority has indicated that there will not be school for all École St. Anne School tomorrow. All classes at Ecole St. Anne are cancelled Tuesday, November 10, 2020,” a media release from the school division said. “Students will participate in remote learning using Edsby. In-person classes will resume November 16, 2020 for all students and staff who are not deemed to be close contacts.”

November 11, 12 and 13 were already identified as non-instructional days in the students’ calendar, the release said.

Public health officials advise students and staff members to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms daily and to not enter the building if they are ill.

The group of students from both classrooms, barring other cases, are required to remain at home and monitor for symptoms. They will abide by the timelines provided by Public Health. Students and staff members are advised to contact HealthLine 811 if they develop symptoms.

Students can continue to receive updates by the school’s online Edsby Portal.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of our school community, and we hope they are doing well. We all have a shared responsibility to decrease the risk of COVID-19 entering schools,” the release said.
