Nov 8, 2020 | 8:08 PM

UPDATE: This story was amended Monday morning.

The unusually heavy early winter snowfall has prompted the Prince Albert Catholic School Division to cancel all classes at all schools Monday.

In a media release issued Sunday night the division said all school buses, and all classes will be cancelled due to the winter storm conditions. It expects to resume school on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.

“The winter storm that hit the city and Prince Albert region over the weekend has created potentially unsafe conditions for students and staff to attend school on Monday, November 9, 2020,” the statement read.

Classes have also been cancelled Monday for L’Ecole Des Petits.

Classes have also been cancelled at Muskoday Community School.

These latest announcements supercede an earlier media release from First Student regarding bus cancellations.

All Saskatchewan Rivers School Division school buses are cancelled today, both in the country and in the city. Public schools will remain open unless otherwise communicated.

Environment Canada classified the weekend storm that has dumped snow across the city and Northeast as a ‘Colorado low’ system. The snow was forecast to end Monday morning.

The city’s roadways manager Brent Kennedy said plows were working throughout the city and working on clearing the top priority roads like Second Avenue East, 15th Street, Marquis Road, and River Street to name a few. Kennedy estimated the Priority 1 roads would be cleared by Sunday evening.

Editor’s note: This story was amended Sunday night to reflect all P.A. Catholic schools are closed Monday which supercedes an earlier announcement regarding bus cancellations. The story was further amended Monday morning to include new information from the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division about bus cancellations.
