Province reports 129 new COVID-19 cases after lab experiences technical difficulties

There are 129 new COVID-19 cases to report in Saskatchewan bringing the provincial total to 3,536 on the eve of an indoor mask order for public places in Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (six), Far North East (one), North West (10), North Central (30), Saskatoon (55), Central West (one), Central East (four), Regina (13), South West (one), South Central (two) and South East (one) zones. Location information is pending for five new cases.

A previous case with a pending residence location from Nov. 3 was determined to be an out-of-province resident. The case was removed from the Saskatchewan total.

“The Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory experienced technical difficulties Tuesday with the validation of COVID-19 tests, resulting in lower than expected case numbers reported yesterday (November 4),” the province said in a release to media. “Following the validation of these samples, nine positive results were identified. Due to the timing of the reporting of laboratory results, these nine cases will be counted in November 6 case numbers.”

Of the total reported cases, 877 are considered active. There have been a total of 2,634 recoveries.

There are 32 people in hospital. Twenty-seven are receiving inpatient care with one in the Far North West zone, three in the North West, eight in North Central, 10 in Saskatoon and five in Regina. Five people are in the intensive care; one in North Central, three in Saskatoon, and one in Regina.

Of the total cases, 380 are travellers, 1,690 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 847 have no known exposures and 619 are under investigation by local public health.

Overall, 108 cases are healthcare workers, although not all may have sourced their infections at work. There are 720 cases involving people 19 years old and under. There are 1,282 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 1,003 in the 40 to 59 age range, 442 in the 60 to 79 age range, and 89 are in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

There have been 25 deaths related to COVID-19 to date.

There are:

  • 942 cases from the Saskatoon area
  • 755 cases from the north area (232 north west, 380 north central, 143 north east)
  • 508 cases from the south area (231 south west, 217 south central, 60 south east)
  • 466 cases from the Regina area
  • 456 cases from the far north area (400 far north west, 0 far north central, 56 far north east)
  • 402 cases from the central area (198 central west, 204 central east)
  • Seven cases currently have pending residence location

There have been 273,520 COVID-19 tests performed in the province with 2,322 performed yesterday.

NITHA communities

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority released their daily COVID-19 update that are specific to their communities.

According to their Facebook page, there are seven cases active in the Far North West, two of which in hospital.

There are four cases active in the Far North East, 25 cases active in the North Central, and 15 cases active in the North East, one of which is in hospital.

There are 187 cases recovered.

NITHA is comprised of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
